Day-by-Day

1: Arrival

Overnight: Hotel 4*

Welcome to Portugal! After your arrival to Lisboa you will be transfer to the hotel in the city center. One of our representatives will meet you at the hotel for a briefing and handover of tour documentation and equipment. Enjoy the remainder of the day to explore the city center at leisure.


2: Discover Lisboa and the historical city center

Overnight: Hotel 4*

Two walks are sugested allowing you to discover distinct areas of Lisboa. One walk, more central and closer to the hotel, will take you through the downtown and up to the Castle (São Jorge). Along the picturesque narrow streets of Mouraria and Alfama, you will find many typical small Petisco (bite-size snack) houses. Fado is very alive in these two neighborhoods, look closer and you may stumble upon a few informal fado bars where locals meet.
  
The second city hike takes you to the Belém district, to discover centuries of history and culture. The walk takes you through the monuments of the Age of Discovery , the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos monastery, passing by the Central Tejo power station a testimony of the industrial era that currently hosts the Electricity museum, to the latest renovated waterfront area of the acclaimed Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. You should not leave the Belém neighborhood without tasting the delicious and delicate custard tarts - The famous Pastéis de Belém.
 
Both walks are to be taken leisurely to enjoy the distinct neighborhoods and the vibrant atmosphere of Lisboa.

3: Transfer to Sintra

Transfer to Sintra is scheduled for the afternoon, allowing another morning to explore Lisboa.
 
You can get the train 28, visiting the downtown areas of the Chiado quarter, Baixa and Praça do Comércio square. At lunch time stoping for lunch and try a tradicional dish like Bacalhau.
 
Sintra is only 45 minutes drive from Lisbon. The accomodation is well located, allowing you to easily reach the old city center and visit Sintra`s main monuments. Sintra is a dazzling area, a gloriously colorful and vibrant ancient town surrounded by wonderful world heritage scenery and monuments. It is famous as a holiday resort, where the Portuguese Royal Family spent their time during the summer.
 
Sintra´s surrounding natural environment and its mountainous outskirts inspires any hiking lover.  
 


4: Sintra Gardens & Palaces

Sintra must be visited before we died, is a common sentence around here and we suspect you will agree with it by the end of the program.
 
Today, you will explore luxuriant parks and extravagant palaces with vast romantic gardens. You can easily find Lord Byron´s Sintra - Heaven on Earth.
  
Our walking suggestions have real charisma giving the opportunity for the visitor to hike in the most beautiful scenarios of the region, to explore its most secret paths, to reach incredible castles and palaces, offering a combination of enjoyable climate, tasty food and great cultural richness.
 
There are plenty of beautiful walks with mountains views and castles visits. You will be amazed with the fantasy of the Pena Palace and its forested grounds and exotic gardens, expressions of a lost Eden. The Pena Palace and Park are a notable example of the Portuguese romantic architecture.
Attractions like the Moorish ancient castle and the mysterious Regaleira Estate are sights that you can visit during the hikes. The day end in the picturesque town center where  you can go for dinner at a traditional Portuguese restaurant, explore the old quarter or go for a stroll along narrow cobbled streets and cozy Jewish alleys.

5: Sintra to Azoia

Today, we will hike towards the beatifull coast of Sintra, called " the cliffs of the end of Europe".
 
On the way, we will hike through ancient paths passing old farms; some have been here for centuries. The mountain range of Sintra is also known as the Moon Hills, after the Celtic goddess Cyntia whose name means moon.
 
Crossing the Colares Valley, you will reach the amazing palace of Monserrate, well worth a visit, its design was influenced by Romanticism and Mudéjar Moorish revival architecture with Neo-Gothic elements, the palace is an inspiring monument for any traveller.
 
Later, hidden deep in the mountain, you will find the Convent of Capuchos, also known as the Cork Convent. After a visit to the Capuchos Convent, the path follow a green dense forest until it reach the outstanding scenario of the Peninha chapel with a 360º view to the ocean and to all the Sintra mountain range. A few kilomenters ahead, you will reach the cosy hotel near Roca Cape, that will be your accomodation for the next two nights.

6: Azoia - Roca Cape

After a delicious breakfast, a vigorous coastal hike awaits you! Yesterday you were on the top of the hills, today you’ll reach the tip of Europe.
Roca Cape is the westernmost point in Continental Europe. Cliffs and small beaches are common around here, the views are a delight.
 
The Roca Cape lighthouse, the sea breeze, the Ursa beach, the trails along the coast, the fish restaurants and the Portuguese sympathy are the highlights of this region.
Return to your accommodation and enjoy is secluded and meditative location, or relax by the pools surrounded by birds chirping sounds and songs, lush green vegetation and the dark blue colors of the ocean on the horizon.

7: Azoia to Cascais

Today you will hike a coastal path from the peaceful village of Azoia to the bustling and glamorous town of Cascais.
 
The views to the ocean from above the granite cliffs of the Sintra Mountain are impressive. From afar you can see Guincho, a large golden sandy beach and its dunes system. Look closer and you will be able to see a number of fortresses that defended the coast from pirates and invading foreign troops since early 17th century.
  
Along the trail you will see the rich, native Mediterranean vegetation typical of the region; the trail is particularly beautiful in the spring when the vegetation blooms with colorful flowers.
 
From Guincho to Cascais the trail goes along the cycle path that follows the jagged coastline. Optionally, you can take a bus to Cascais allowing you more time to enjoy Cascais and its lively holiday atmosphere.
 
Locals and tourists alike agree that Cascais is "the best place in Portugal to spend a day, or a lifetime".
