The Portuguese Way is a hiking route linking the major town of Ponte de Lima to Santiago de Compostela, along the beautiful old Saint James path. Every day is a different scenery, offering country side views, towns and cities rich in culture and filled with the camino spirits. Churches, monuments, old crosses will tell the history of this less trodden way until you arrive at Obradoiro Square, just in front of Saint James Cathedral, in the heart of Santiago the Compostela. You will experience the true way, away from the crowds and near yourself discover.

Day-by-Day

1: Welcome and Transfer to Ponte de Lima

Overnight: Hotel 3*  Imperio do Norte Hotel (Plima)

Our Guide will welcome you at Porto Airport and we will be transfer to the charming town of Ponte de Lima.
Depending on the arrival time, there will be time to visit the city, discover the town center and walk towards the Castle.

2: Hike Ponte de Lima to Fountoura

Overnight: Hotel 3*  Lara Hotel (Valença do Minho)
Meals: Breakfast - Lunch box - Dinner

The day starts from the doorstep towards Ponte de Lima central square and the old roman bridge.
You won’t just walk, but be part of the history. The way goes up to the highest point of the entire hiking program.
Cross the beautiful countryside of northern Portugal and delight your eyes with landscape plans.
Away from the big roads and thru little ways you’ll get to Rubiães and across another mountain pass to Fountora.
We will end at Fountoura to avoid the Urban area of Valença do Minho.

3: Hike Valença do Minho to Porriño

Overnight: Hotel 3*  Lara Hotel (Valença do Minho)

Hiking along the fortresses, passing under old doors, travel in medieval streets and crossing over ancient bridges, today you might feel like a middle age pilgrimage.
The times has changed but the atmosphere, the landscape or the people lifestyle did not. Valença old fort is our first visit and followed by the border crossing will arrive at Tuy.
Lets enjoy the town of Tuy and spend some time in the center, the Cathedral is a must see.
The town is by the border of Galiza, Spain.
The visit had to end and a walk along the river Louro and forrest takes us pilgrims to Porriño.

4: Hike Monte Santiago to Pontevedra

Overnight: Hotel 2*  O Cruceiro Hotel (Caldas Reis)
Meals: Breakfast - Lunch box - Dinner

Your adventure starts in the beautiful Monte Santiago (Santiago's Hill) after a small transfer (1H).
At 250-meter-high you can see the horizon, feel the wind and take some great photos over Redondela and Ria de Vigo.
Until the town the way is easy and down, having opportunity to pass in some rural villages.
Continuing after Redondela it will be just gorgeous until the end.
Imagining from the ocean like fjord scenery, step inland in kilometers of wooden forested area and enter in old Romanic little villages.
All this following the camino spirit and atmosphere where people are friendly and hospitable.
Passing Arcade village and going up the small hill soon you arrive in Pontevedra.
Pontevedra is a wonderful town full of history and superb Esplanades to a have a delicious meal.

5: Hike Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis

Overnight: Hotel 2*  O Cruceiro Hotel (Caldas Reis)

A After your breakfast feeling full energized you will start one of the longest day. First across the streets of old Pontevedra towards the roman bridge to leave the city.
The experience goes through old railways, rural paths and wetlands. The wetland protected area is lace of hundreds of species and biodiversity.  
Step by step we get closer to Caldas dos Reis, the destination of the day.  
This rural Galicia of small field, villages and forested areas scattered into the countryside make the hiking enjoyable.
A few kilometers before Caldas de Reis there is the waterfall and the watermills system of Barrosa river, a nice stop to take a look before check in at the hotel.

6: Hike Caldas de Reis to Padrón

Overnight: Hotel 2*  O Cruceiro Hotel (Caldas Reis)

Your sixth day begins with nice walk along agriculture fields, in this fertile land.
Toward Valga the path goes into a very scenic scenery by the river and dark forest.
Out of this forest and along little roads you reach Pontecesures a place full of religious architecture.
Crossing the river reach Padrón your last stop before Santiago de Compostela, this town have beautiful gardens and monuments all around.

7: Hike Esclavitud to Santiago de Compostela

Overnight: Hotel 2*  Windsor Hotel
Meals: Breakfast - Lunch box - Dinner

last day of Pilgrimage!  Santiago awaits you just 18km ahead from Esclavitud.
The day to reach Santiago de Compostela is probably the longest one, not about the kilometers but mindset.
The path leaves the Church of Esclavitud going up north. Soon you reach the outskirts of Santiago.
The first full view of the city are at Milladoiro Hill.
By the afternoon lets explore Santiago, the old quarter and the rest there is a lot to see.

8: End of Tour & Transfer to Porto

Free time in the morning to enjoy a litle more of this unique city.
After lunch we will head back to Porto.
