1: Arrival to Porto Overnight: Meals: Welcome to Portugal! You will have a transfer from the airport or train station to your hotel where a member from our staff will meet you for a presentation and briefing of the tour. The rest of the day is free. If you have time, you can go explore the old town of Porto with its granitic houses, monuments and narrow streets, ideal for a stroll.

2: Visit Porto and Train to Pinhão Overnight: Meals: Breakfast Save the morning to discover Porto, a charming city famed for the production of Port wine and its generous and easy-going people. The historic center of Porto and the river Douro, on the Gaia side, are classified as UNESCO World Heritage.
After the visit to the city, get the train to Pinhão. This is a scenic journey leading to the vineyards of the Douro valley, following the river. Here, the slopes are monumental and the wine culture is present in every moment. The day ends in Pinhão, the heart of the Alto Douro wine region. Be sure to check the railway station, with its 24 beautiful blue and white tile panels depicting the landscapes of the Alto Douro and scenes of the grape harvest.

3: Hike from Pinhão to Sabrosa Overnight: Meals: Breakfast From Pinhão until the village of Sabrosa it will be a challenging hike through the wine country of Douro. On the way you will cross Provosende, once a very important capital of the region, now a small quiet village. The old manor houses and the stunning views offer splendid photo opportunities. The old pathways will take you through small villages until you reach Sabrosa, home of Ferdinand Magellan, the well-known explorer from the 16th century that first sailed around the world. Sabrosa will be your home for the night.
Note: If you choose the budget option, the night will be at Alijó (transfers both ways are included).

4: Hike from Sabrosa to Alijó Overnight: Meals: Breakfast Find yourself crossing vineyards, in a scenery of steep slopes with terraces of vines and olive trees, on a descend trail to meet the river Pinhão. On the way to the village of Favaios, you will pass Quinta do Estanho, an award-winning Port wine producing estate. The small village of Favaios is known for its famous moscatel wine, so this will be a good moment for an aperitif with a sweet golden Favaios wine. From here, Alijó is around 3km distance.

5: Hike from Alijó to Vale de Mendiz Overnight: Meals: Breakfast Today you will hike from Alijó to Vale Mendiz, passing again in Favaios village but this time for its old bakeries, which still use the wood-fired ovens dating back to the late 19th century. You can have the opportunity to visit a local bakery and taste the fresh bread baked in a wooden oven. Following ancient footpaths, you will reach a fabulous viewpoint overlooking the wine terraces and the valley, all the way down to the river Pinhão. At the end of the day you will reach your destination, a little village on the hillside called Vale Mendiz.

6: Hike from Vale de Mendiz to Pinhão Overnight: Meals: Breakfast The hike today will take you along crests overlooking the Douro river and descend towards it. The views are immense, extending to the surrounding hills in every direction. There will be plenty of photo opportunities until you reach the familiar village of Pinhão, sitting on a scenic bend in the Douro River.

7: Return to Porto - River cruise or Casa de Mateus Overnight: Meals: Breakfast APRIL TO OCTOBER - RIVER CRUISE TO PORTO
After a small transfer to Peso de Régua, you spend the day cruising the river back to Porto passing some stunning locks with 14 and 35m of descent at the dams. Appetizers and lunch are served on board while enjoying the views. The cruise ends at the pier in Vila Nova the Gaia.
Optionally, you can choose to visit Casa de Mateus and be transferred to Porto by car. A supplement applies to this option.
NOVEMBER TO MARCH - VISIT CASA DE MATEUS + TRANSFER TO PORTO
Travel to Vila Real for the visit to Casa de Mateus. The visit includes part of the main house, gardens and wineries, and ends with a wine tasting. At the end of the visit there will be a transfer to Porto.
